saturday morning yoga – weekly exploratiOM
abhinivesa - fear
continuing our theme of avidya, we now consider abhinivesa
on the mat
do you ever feel fear on your mat? do particular poses/asana cause you fear?
does fear ever arise from your practise or stir within you that you don't relate to a particular pose or practise?
observe this in your practise and if fear does arise try to be with it and experience and accept the feelings/sensations, explore them, observe and return to your breath
off the mat
consider fear in your everyday life
how does fear feel to you? how do you manage fear?
does fear stop you from doing anything? some fear is good, it protects us, makes us consider our actions but fear can also be limiting - consider this and observe day to day
consider your comfort zone, what is your comfort zone? what does it mean or consist of for you? do you ever step outside of your comfort zone? how does it feel?
journal your explorations if you wish
this is all completely optional, things to consider if you feel inclined to do so - also conduct your own explorations of the subject if it feels right; it's your exploration :-)
further reading
the heart of yoga, desikachar (pages 9, 10, 11 and 12)
feel the fear and do it anyway - susan jeffers
relax and renew, restful yoga for stressful times - judith lasater
topical music
ben howard - the fear
craig pruess and ananda - ganesh invocation
a little extra exploratiOM
consider a daily 'creating space' practise (if you don't already have such a practise). sit comfortably for a minimum of ten minutes and watch your breath. allow any thoughts to drift by and don't become attached to them, just observe them. notice and journal, if you wish, the effects of this practise on all aspects of your day to day life.
if you have any questions, thoughts or comments please email me, [email protected]
enjoy!
